Your next steps
Contact your bank immediately
Use your banking app or the number on your card. Ask the bank to stop payments, secure your account and discuss recovery options. Recovery is not guaranteed. Do not wait for a crime report.
Keep the evidence
Save messages, receipts, dates and payment references. Stop contact with the scammer and do not send more money.
Beware of recovery scams
Someone offering to recover your money for an upfront fee may be another scammer. Verify any contact independently.
Report it through official channels
For fraud or cybercrime, contact Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040. Report Fraud replaced Action Fraud in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Report FraudSuspicious text: forward to 7726. Suspicious email: forward to report@phishing.gov.uk. Contact your bank first if payments or banking details are involved.
